Theo Beard Arrives!

After what seemed like a long wait, Beard junior made his way into the world at at 0441 BST on Sunday 12th September 2010, making his way neatly in between two not so good potential birthdays....the 11th and 13th.  Coincidentally he shares his birthday with Gabi's Dad, so Gheorghe was pleased with his birthday present of a new Grandson!  He was  3.61Kg or about 7lb 15 oz.

Gabi got us up at 0114 with the start of baby action and Theodore Tiger Beard was born 3 1/2 hours later in Poole Maternity Unit.  Everything went really smoothly with Gabi staying nicely in control and me totally fascinated by the whole process!  The midwife was fantastic and the staff kindly provided us with some breakfast to keep us going.  We are relieved that everything seems fine with the little one and that Gabi is really well...obviously rather sore but walking, sitting and travelling just fine.  In fact we were home by noon on Sunday.  It was fantastic that so many family members saw Theo so soon after he was born, with Grandma Ionitescu and Ruru at home and Mum, Dad, Sally-Anne and James, all seeing him within about 8 hours of his birth.

Why the name?  Well Theodore appealed to Gabi because it means "Gift of God" and I really liked it too.  It also shortens neatly to Theo.  Tiger sounds cheeky and Gabi is interested in Chinese Astrology, where it is the year of the Tiger (it has nothing to do with a philandering golfer!).

Here are a selection of shots taken from shortly after his birth and through all the visitors who were kind enough to come and see him on his first day.  Thanks to M&D for bringing the cheerful champagne, flowers and balloon and to Sal and JB for the cuddly toy.  Thanks to Marcus and family for wishing us well from farther afield and we hope to see you soon.  Thanks to Grandma Ionitescu and Mihaela for some nice little clothes.

For the photo geeks among us all images were taken on the Nikon D700 using the Nikon 50mm F1.4G and Carl Zeiss 100mm F2 Macro Planar.  Light was a mix of ambient and bounced flash.
